And then they taketh away.

At least Ohio State alumnus David Steckel had a stand-out night in Columbus on the draws, winning 12 of 17 face offs.

However, while these last two Washington Capitals games featured such a dramatic reversal of fortunes, I’m not suggesting from the title of this post that either of the last two home wins by the injury-decimated team was the result of anything but an extraordinary and inspired effort.

Now time for some well-earned rest and a few days to get healthier before Tuesday’s home game vs. FLA.

Still three points up on Carolina for the SE division lead, with 24 GP each. But that 4-8-2 road record does need to improve, once some guys start working their way back into the lineup. Hopefully beginning next Saturday in T.O., against Crazy Ron Wilson and the Leafs.

Last night, I took in a rivalry matchup in the A between the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Bridgeport Soundtigers, both Connecticut-based teams and, of course, affiliates of the Rangers and Islanders, respectively, at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT.

The Hershey Bears have been battling the ‘Tigers of late for the lead in the East Division, splitting the last two head-to-head meetings.  The Bears held a one point lead heading into tonight’s action.

While being outshot by the ‘Pack on this night by a 46-25 count, it was clear that Bridgeport was the more skilled squad.  The Wolf Pack dominated defensively (led by Rangers 2006 1st round pick D Bobby Sanguinetti), territorially, and on the shot counter, but Bridgeport finished their chances when they got them in the third, and emerged the 4-1 victors

Below are a few photos I took at the game.

Thankfully, the Bears kept pace and won their SEVENTH straight, 3-2 in OT over Albany, retaining the top spot in the East.  Rookie François Bouchard scored the GWG in OT, assisted by Josh Godfrey, and Simeon Varlamov got the win, stopping 18 of 20.
