A snapshot of your top Eastern Conference forward vote-getters, as of this afternoon, on this first day of real-time voting for ASG starters:

Pretty impressive early showing for Alex Semin, considering that the ASG is in Montreal and that Les Habs are celebrating a centennial anniversary.

And it’s only one day, but notice who is not yet on this list.

Alright, it’s only two games (the third tonight):  but the duo of Tom Poti and Tyler Sloan has provided a surprising anchor to a D corps missing its Mo.  The pair is a combined +6 in those two games and, individually, they are two of the three best Capitals defenseman so far this season in goals allowed per 60 minutes at ES.

And as for Poti, his shoulder is healthy for shootin,’ and its beginning to show, tallying in each of the last two games.  Of course, he’ll never be an elite goal-scoring defenseman like Mike Green, having never exceeded 11 goals in a full season (6 years ago for NYR, his best offensive season to date).

But in the modest sample of this season, he’s got a shooting % of 18.2, compared with, well, 2% last year.  He’s not really getting more shots on goal per game yet, but he’s had 13 shots blocked, second among defenseman to Green’s 21 shots blocked.

Its also worth noting that Sloan is averaging 11:42 TOI/G (almost all at ES) and just over 16 shifts in his 6 games played for the Capitals.  And he held down a whopping 16:44 TOI and 24 shifts vs. NYR last Saturday.

What, we wonder, would Karl Alzner be averaging in TOI if he were up with the parent club today?  Would you predict his stat line to look better than Sloan’s through 6 games?

The Québec Remparts, under GM and head coach, Patrick Roy, lead the LHJMQ’s Eastern Division with a 15-4-0-1 record.

And who is leading the Remparts in scoring? Well, of course it’s ailier droit Dmitri Kugryshev, with 12 G and 6 A in 16 GP. He’s scored 3 goals and 1 assist in his last three games.

The Washington Capitals 2008 pick (2nd round, #58) is second in goal scoring amongst all LHJMQ rookies, only to Victoriaville’s Brandon Hynes, who has just one more goal, but in 24 GP. And Kugryshev is tied for ninth best in goal scoring overall in the Q.
