From Dan Sernoffsky’s Bear Tracks today:

• Left wing Oskar Osala is tied for third in the league in goals with nine while ranking second in goals among rookies in the AHL. He is tied for fourth in rookie scoring with 11 points, and is tied for third among rookies in plus-minus with a plus-9 rating.

• Center Mathieu Perreault is tied for fourth in the AHL in rookie scoring with 11 points on three goals and eight assists, the eight assists tying him for second in the league among rookies. He is tied for third among rookies in plus-minus with a plus-9 rating.

• Defenseman Karl Alzner is tied for fifth among rookies in plus-minus with a plus-8 rating.

The Bears may have lost four of their last five, but that 2006 Washington Capitals draft class, including Simeon Varlamov (1st round, #23), François Bouchard (2nd round, #31), Osala (4th round, #97), and Perreault (6th round, #177) is looking quite stellar.  Oh, yeah, and that Bäckström guy too.
